Corning groups note Year of the Eucharist

Two Corning groups are featuring series of activities to honor Pope John Paul II’s recent declaration of the Year of the Eucharist, which called for a greater focus on eucharistic devotion from October 2004 to October 2005.

The Secular Franciscans, St. Pius X Fraternity, are including a chaplet on the Eucharist at each of its monthly meetings. The group meets on the second Saturday of each month, beginning at 9 a.m., at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Painted Post, with the next meeting set for Dec. 11. Call 607/936-4535 for more details.

Also in keeping with the Year of the Eucharist, Father Charles Sabella of the Anawim Community is offering a monthly teaching. This will include eucharistic events and teachings of the church, as well as details on the lives of eucharistic saints. The Anawim Community is located at 122 E. First St. and its phone number is 607/936-4965.

In addition to these special acknowledgements, many ongoing eucharistic events exist in the Corning area such as Benedictions, Holy Hours and adoration vigils.

“We are highly recommending all the eucharistic adoration opportunities in Corning, as there are several,” said Gloria House, leader of the St. Pius X Fraternity.
