Corning pantry seeks help after fire

Donations are being requested by Corning Community Food Pantry in the wake of a fire that recently occurred in an adjacent building.

Smoke damage from the Dec. 21 blaze at Cutler’s Carpet forced the food pantry to be closed until Jan. 2. In addition, all boxed and wrapped food items such as cereal, pasta, macaroni and cheese, crackers, cookies, instant potatoes, noodles, baking items, produce, toilet paper and paper towels had to be discarded. The pantry is asking donors to help replace those items as well as make monetary contributions. Checks may be mailed to Corning Community Food Pantry, PO Box 1255, Corning, NY 14830.

The food pantry is located at 35 W. William St. on the city’s north side, and its phone number is 607-962-6750. It was previously located for most of its history at the site of the former St. Patrick Church.
