To the editor:
Archbishop Edwin O’Brien’s contention that “there is no room in seminaries for men with strong homosexual inclinations even if they have been celibate for a decade or more” (“Seminaries Warned Not To Accept Homosexuals,” Catholic Courier, Sept. 17/18) slanders the many dedicated homosexual men who have served and are serving as exemplary ordained ministers. As church, we all will be the poorer if we are deprived of the faithful teaching, preaching and example of homosexual priests, bishops, cardinals and popes. Our resources for building the reign of God preached by Jesus in the Gospels will be significantly diminished.
