Couple finds joy amid messy mishap with bathroom bubbles

A few years ago, my late husband, Ed, surprised me with a romantic weekend to Niagara Falls. The hotel said we had a free upgrade to a king suite with a Jacuzzi. Wow!

We turned on the Jacuzzi faucet and went to put on the plush hotel bathrobes and slippers. To surprise Ed, I snuck back and poured my little bottle of scented shower gel into the Jacuzzi and turned on the Jacuzzi jets.

When we came back, we were both shocked. The Jacuzzi had overflowed with bubbles all over the bathroom floor. I froze, thinking Ed might be upset, but Ed had the amazing ability to choose joy. This was one of the secrets to our happy marriage.

Ed looked at me with a sneaky smile. He picked up some bubbles and threw them at me. I threw some back. We had a fun bubble fight. While cleaning up, we found that we couldn’t get rid of the bubbles. We drained all the water from the Jacuzzi, but the bubbles still filled the tub. We took the bubbles from the floor and put them in the shower and turned on the shower to wash them down the drain, but that only made more. We put some in the sink and turned on the water, and it made more. We used up all the big, plush towels mopping up the bathroom floor. We were exhausted and had to leave the bubbles in the Jacuzzi, shower and sink and go to bed. We fell asleep giggling, listening to the bubbles popping.

I keep a bottle of bubble liquid in my car. When I miss Ed, I blow bubbles to remember our fun adventure. I also remember that Ed would want me to continue to choose joy like he did.
