Many families share the excitement of opening the windows or doors of an Advent calendar as they count down the days until Christmas. The Catholic Courier’s digital Advent calendar also has become an annual tradition for many.
The fifth installment of the calendar, available at CatholicCourier.com/adventcalendar2019, starts Dec. 1 and will feature 25 windows hiding multimedia “treats.” Visitors will be able to open a new window each day through Dec. 25.
Several days will offer videos featuring the students and faculty of area Catholic schools. Other surprises will include cooking videos, reflections on the Sunday Gospel readings, Christmas crafts and games, and other seasonal activities happening around the diocese.
In conjunction with the Advent calendar, the Catholic Courier again is sponsoring a coloring contest for children ages 3 to 12. Interested children and their parents or teachers can check out page 11 of this issue, which features the picture to be colored. The coloring page also can be downloaded and printed from the Courier’s website, where complete rules also are listed. Contest entries may be mailed to Catholic Courier, Coloring Contest, 1150 Buffalo Road, Rochester, NY 14624, or emailed to email@example.com.
The deadline to enter the contest is Nov. 27. Beginning Dec. 2, visitors to the Courier’s website will be invited to vote for the best-colored picture in each age category (3-4, 5-6, 7-8, 9-10 and 11-12). Voting rules also are listed on the coloring-contest page of the website, and winners will be announced in a video featured in the Advent calendar on Dec. 18.
