Crafting Christmas ornaments creates lifelong memories

When my sons were little, one of our favorite annual activities was making homemade Christmas ornaments and decorations.

It was a great way for them to unleash their creativity, and it gave them a chance to paint, glue and glitter with abandon. For me, it was an opportunity to share with them my love of crafting and enjoy some extra mother-son bonding time.

Our Christmas crafting was definitely all about fun, but I also had the future in mind.

One day, when my sons strike out on their own, I will give each of them a box containing the Christmas ornaments we made together so they can decorate their own homes for the holidays. I hope when they decorate their Christmas trees that they remember the fun they had making their ornaments.

There are two ornaments that won’t make it into their boxes, however.

I had them each make an extra ornament for me that features their handprints, the fingers of which I turned into snowmen (see photo above). That way, I can always remember what their little hands looked like!

Do you have a favorite Christmas ornament or decoration? If so, take a photo of it and share it with us! All the photos we receive by Dec. 16 will be compiled into a video that will appear in our digital Advent calendar Dec. 24.

Photos can be submitted through the Courier’s website.

I look forward to seeing some of the holiday decor that makes Christmas special for you!
