CUA president to speak in Rochester Sept. 15

Dr. John Garvey, president of The Catholic University of America, will be the featured guest at a Catholic Courier-sponsored lecture on Thursday, Sept. 15.

Garvey’s column "Faith & Intelligence," is syndicated by Catholic News Service and frequently featured on the Courier’s commentary pages.

The event will take place at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park, Rochester. His presentation, which begins at 6:30 p.m., is free and open to the public. Serving as host will be Rochester Bishop Salvatore R. Matano, publisher of the Courier and El Mensajero Católico newspapers.

Garvey’s appearance is the second installment in the Catholic Courier’s annual lecture series, which began in February 2015 with a presentation by Basilian Father Thomas Rosica, a Rochester native who serves as chief executive officer of Canada’s Salt + Light Catholic Television Network and English-language assistant to the Holy See Press Office.

Garvey has served as president of CUA since 2010. He previously served as dean of Boston College Law School from 1999-2010. Garvey has taught law at the University of Notre Dame, University of Michigan and University of Kentucky. He also has authored and coauthored several books.
