The Holy Cross CYO 4/5/6 cheerleaders took first place in their division at the Empire Elite Cheer Competition in Hamburg, N.Y., on Nov. 12. Coached by parishioner Michele Smits and her daughters, Holy Cross alumnae Ariella and Talia Smits, the Bombers continue the legacy of top cheer teams from Holy Cross School. On the evening before the competition, the team attended Mass together and received the traditional “blessing of the sneakers” from Father Jorge Ramirez. Captained by Holy Cross fifth-graders Leah Carrier, Brooklyn Tortorice and Victoria LaRocca, this small squad showed everyone that they could do big things!
