Dansville cemetery to host memorial service for the unborn

Holy Cross Cemetery in Dansville will hold a public prayer and remembrance service for the unborn on Saturday, Sept. 12.

It is set to take place from 10 to 11 a.m. at the cemetery, located at 10127 Stones Falls Road. Deacon Paul Clement will officiate, accompanied by members of the Respect Life Ministry serving Holy Family Catholic Community (St. Mary, Dansville; St. Joseph, Wayland; Sacred Heart, Perkinsville; and St. Pius V, Cohocton).

The event will fall on the National Day of Remembrance for Aborted Children, observed annually on Sept. 12 at hundreds of locations across the United States. It will take place at the cemetery’s Memorial to the Unborn, a black teardrop engraved monument containing the inscription “In memory of the millions of babies killed by abortion — lest we forget.”

Dedicated in 2016, the memorial was funded by Holy Family’s Knights of Columbus Council 11538, Knights’ Ladies’ Auxiliary, private donors and local pro-life advocates. Vada and Wayne Holmes of Holy Family Catholic Community were the driving force behind the design and establishment of the memorial in an effort to raise awareness about abortion and bring healing for those who have had abortions and regret them.
