To the editor:
It is hard to conceive of a Catholic who would not see as pure fiction the idea that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married and had a family as alluded to in The Da Vinci Code. The idea is alien to what we have been taught about Jesus from our earliest years. On the other hand, Opus Dei is a real organization which apparently has engaged in some untoward practices — see www.OpusDeiAwarenessNetwork.org. In the past few years we lay Catholics have had some painful things brought to our awareness about the institutional Church. Yet, we must remember that the Holy Spirit is with us and that Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament is there every day to provide us with all that we need to face the future. This is our Faith. Incidentally, if you like mystery thrillers, The Da Vinci Code is excellent.
