Deacon assignments announced

Bishop Robert J. Cunningham, apostolic administrator of the Diocese of Rochester, has announced the following permanent deacon assignments, which took effect July 1.

* Deacon Emmanuel Asis to St. Lawrence, Greece, from St. Marianne Cope, Henrietta.

* Deacon Herbert Bietry, ordained June 1, to St. Marianne Cope, Henrietta.

* Deacon Robert Burke to St. John the Evangelist, Greece, from St. Monica, Rochester.

* Deacon Richard DeMars to St. Mary of the Lake/St. Benedict, Watkins Glen/Odessa, from the Diocese of Kalamazoo, Mich.

* Deacon Douglas Farwell, ordained June 1, to Ss. Isidore & Maria Torribia, Addison.

* Deacon Edward Kohlmeier to St. Maximilian Kolbe, Ontario, from Blessed Trinity Community, Wolcott.

* Deacon Robert Lee, ordained June 1, to Blessed Trinity Community, Wolcott.

* Deacon Michael Mangione to a leave of absence from an assignment at Elmira Psychiatric Center.

* Deacon Joseph Placious to Holy Cross, Charlotte, from Holy Name of Jesus, Greece.

* Deacon James Steiger to St. Leo, Hilton, and the diocesan Marriage Tribunal from St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Hamlin.

* Deacon Daniel Williams to a leave of absence from assignments at Catholic Charities of Steuben County and Ss. Isidore & Maria Torribia, Addison.

The following deacons were granted permission to retire:

* Deacon Anthony Caruso, after 19 years of active diaconal service, most recently at St. Marianne Cope, Henrietta.

* Deacon James Chatterton, after 20 years of active diaconal service, most recently at St. Lawrence, Greece.

* Deacon Gregg Lawson, after 20 years of active diaconal service, most recently at St. Alphonsus, Auburn.
