Deacons to honor founder of Greece comfort-care facility

The founder of a comfort-care home in Greece will be honored during the annual diocesan retreat for deacons and their wives, set for Sept. 11-13 at Notre Dame Retreat House in Canandaigua.

On Sept. 12, the Stanley Zawacki Award will be presented to Tracey Jagla, a member of Greece’s St. Charles Borromeo Parish. She began Journey Home in 1999 and remains its director today. The small ranch house, located at the corner of Long Pond Road and Vintage Lane, is staffed largely by volunteers. Journey Home has served more than 500 guests since its inception.

The Zawacki honor is presented to a person who exemplifies selfless service to others. Stanley Zawacki was ordained in 1982 as a member of the first class of permanent deacons in the Diocese of Rochester, serving until his sudden passing in 1994.
