Father Patrick J. Frawley has been appointed interim CEO of Fidelis Care due to the death of President and CEO Mark L. Lane on July 22 following a brief illness. Lane was 60.
Fidelis Care is the health-insurance plan provider founded by the state’s Catholic bishops that makes available the state’s free or low-cost Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus and Medicaid Managed Care insurance programs to more than 780,000 members.
Father Frawley was the organization’s executive vice president and chief operating officer. He joined Fidelis Care in 1996 and worked with Lane in expanding the plan from its initial service area of 14 ZIP codes in Brooklyn to 59 of the state’s 62 counties.
According to a statement from Fidelis, under Lane’s leadership the organization experienced a rapid and sustained growth in membership, added new programs and services, and provided quality care with the highest levels of compassion, dignity and respect.
Before joining Fidelis Care, Lane was chief operating officer of the Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens, which later merged into St. Vincent Catholic Medical Centers. He also was chief operating officer of St. Peter’s Hospital in Albany and vice president of ambulatory services at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
