Diocese of Rochester schools eye safe, faith-filled academic year
I hope you are enjoying the special coverage of our Catholic schools in this August 2020 edition of the Catholic Courier. We renew our gratitude to our good and gracious God for the gift of Catholic education, and for our dedicated principals, administrators, teachers and staff in our schools, as well as the families and patrons who are committed to the mission of Catholic schools: to form our children in the Catholic faith through the loving creation of communities of faith, knowledge and service.
I especially wish to offer my thanks for the extraordinary devotion to the continuance of this mission during the tragic COVID-19 pandemic. When we were required to close our doors in March, our schools rose to this unprecedented challenge, offering online learning and staying connected in as many ways as possible through the miracle of technology. Our principals, teachers, staff and parents truly modeled this “community of faith, learning and knowledge” during this very challenging time. I commend you and offer my heartfelt gratitude.
As we await a final decision from New York state later this month on reopening, we pray that we can go ahead with our much studied and careful plan to offer full-time instruction in our schools once again. Be assured that every decision we make will prioritize the health and safety of our students, staff and families. With the rock of our Catholic faith to lean on and support us, we will continue to work together to ensure a safe and faith-filled academic experience for our children.
If you have chosen a Catholic education for your child, we thank you. Enjoy the rest of the summer, stay safe and well, and may God bless you and your families throughout the upcoming academic year!
