Bishop Matano’s statement on the death of Benedict XVI

The Diocese of Rochester has scheduled a Solemn Mass marking the passing of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI.

Bishop Salvatore R. Matano will celebrate the 7 p.m. Mass on Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2023, at Sacred Heart Cathedral, Rochester.

All are encouraged to attend this Solemn Mass.

Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI passed away Dec. 31, 2022 at the age of 95.

Pope Francis will preside at his funeral in St. Peter’s Square Jan. 5 starting at 9:30 a.m. Rome time, which is 3:30 a.m. in Rochester.
