Diocese of Rochester welcomes input for next stage of Synod

Diocesan Catholics are invited to take part in the next stage of the Synod on Synodality, a three-year process of listening, dialogue, prayer and discernment across the Catholic Church worldwide.

The synod, initiated by Pope Francis, began in October 2021 under the theme “For a Synodal Church: Communion, Participation and Mission.”

During the synod’s first phase, more than 2,500 people in the Diocese of Rochester met in small-group sessions to discuss how best to fulfill the church’s mission. Their input became part of feedback from dioceses around the world that ultimately reached the Vatican.

The synod’s first phase ended in October 2023 in Rome with the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops.

A second synod session in Rome is set for October 2024. In the months leading up to it, Catholics are being asked to weigh how the fruits of the synod’s first phase have been integrated into the life of their respective dioceses.

For information on how to take part in listening sessions over the next several months, as well as other resources, visit www.dor.org/synod-2024.
