The Diocese of Rochester announced March 26 that it had received from two individuals allegations of sexual abuse against the late Father David L. Bonin, who died in March 2002 at the age of 53.
In both cases, the individuals reported that the alleged abuse occurred when they were minors and while Father Bonin was pastor of St. Mary of the Lake Church in Watkins Glen and St. Benedict Church in Odessa, where the priest served from 1989-2001.
Diocesan spokesman Doug Mandelaro said the diocese had never received any allegations against Father Bonin prior to this year.
“We issue this public statement in an effort to reach out to any others who may have information about possible sexual misconduct by Rev. Bonin and to offer them the healing and help they deserve,” Mandelaro said.
