Disappointed by TGA plan

To the editor:

I am disappointed as to how this year’s Thanks Giving Appeal is being conducted. Last year the TGA campaign was substituted with the Partners in Faith campaign. The Partners in Faith was very successful and the parishes shared in the success of the campaign with the diocese. I supported the campaign and was very involved with the campaign at my parish.

Each parish this year has a TGA target amount that must be met by parishioners’ contributions or the parish makes up the shortfall. This is different form the past few years. Why the change? Doesn’t the diocesan leadership trust in the flock? Will not many parishes have to return some of the Partners in Faith surplus to offset a TGA shortfall?

It appears that the diocese is competing more and more with the local parishes for the same dollar. There is only so much to give.

EDITOR’S NOTE: From the appeal’s inception in 1981 through 1990-91, parish TGA goals were assigned by the diocese. This year’s campaign is a return to the earlier model.
