To the editor:
In the second reading for today (25th Sunday of Ordinary time), St Paul says: “For me life is Christ, to die is gain.” I thought of these words in connection with Terri Schiavo. Were the efforts being made simply to keep her alive physically actually delaying her entrance into the eternal life God has prepared for her and for all of us? Catholic teaching has never held that physical life must be preserved at all costs. Catholic teaching has always said that the life we are ultimately destined for is immortal life with God. There are times when we have to ask ourselves: Do we really believe this?
