The former medical director of a hospital for sick and disadvantaged children in Haiti will speak at St. Louis Church in Pittsford Oct. 8 and 9.
After serving as the medical director of St. Damien Pediatric Hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, for nearly 30 years, Dr. Jacqueline Gautier currently serves as the hospital’s adviser and coordinator of development. She will talk about the hospital’s work and the challenges facing Haiti during presentations Oct. 8 at 5:30 p.m. and Oct. 9 at 9 a.m. in St. Louis’ parish meeting hall, located at 64 S. Main St., Pittsford.
St. Louis’ Helping Haiti Ministry Team has been raising funds for St. Damien Pediatric Hospital and the work of Passionist Father Rick Frechette for several decades through annual sales of fresh corn in September and handmade ornaments in December. The hospital also provides care to pregnant women and children in need and employs more than 500 local residents.
Snacks and drinks will be provided at the presentations, which are free and open to the public. The events also will include a silent auction of artwork created by a 10-year-old Haitian boy.
