Through the overwhelming generosity of the community, the Catholic Courier/Catholic Charities Christmas Appeal has surpassed its 2020-21 campaign goal of $40,000. Even so, there’s still time to donate to this year’s appeal, which runs through Feb. 28.
The appeal, which is in its 51st year, raises money for the emergency funds of the various Catholic Charities offices and affiliated agencies throughout the Diocese of Rochester. As of Jan. 27, the 2020-21 campaign raised $48,185.81 from 426 donors, according to the Courier’s circulation coordinator, Chloe Longabaugh, who oversees the appeal.
Some of these donations were made through the United Way’s annual ROC the Day fundraising event, which was Dec. 1. During this 24-hour event for Rochester-area not-for-profit organizations, the Christmas Appeal raised $3,282.35, more than doubling the funds raised during the 2019 event, Longabaugh said.
To contribute to the appeal, send checks payable to Christmas Appeal to the Catholic Courier, PO Box 24379, Rochester, NY 14624. Please include your name, address, city, state, ZIP code and telephone number, and indicate whether the gift is being made in honor or memory of someone.
