Elmira-based food bank appoints new president and CEO

Mark Bordeau, a longtime board member of Food Bank of the Southern Tier, has been appointed president and CEO of the agency effective Aug. 14. He replaces Natasha Thompson, who stepped down in February after 15 years in that position.

Bordeau had served as executive director of the Rural Health Network of South Central New York since 2021. He previously worked for 22 years as senior director of food service for Broome-Tioga BOCES. In that position, he administered the child nutrition programs for 15 school districts throughout two counties.

In addition, Bordeau served from 2009-18 on the board of directors of Food Bank of the Southern Tier, an agency of Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rochester.

“The opportunity to lead an organization that is dedicated to combating hunger and making a positive impact in the lives of individuals and families is both humbling and inspiring,” Bordeau said in a statement about his appointment.

Bordeau will oversee operations, strategy and partnerships with the food bank, which supports the hungry in Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, Tioga and Tompkins counties in the Rochester Diocese as well as Broome County in the Diocese of Syracuse. The agency is located at 388 Upper Oakwood Ave. in Elmira.
