Tickets are on sale for the third-annual Empty Bowls Open Hearts Luncheon to be held Tuesday, Oct. 14, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Elmira College Campus Center.
The luncheon, which serves to highlight hunger awareness, will benefit the Catholic Charities Samaritan Center in Elmira. That organization provides food, clothing, household items and prescription-drug assistance for families in need.
According to Thea Parker, Samaritan Center program coordinator, last year’s Empty Bowls gathering drew approximately 400 participants and raised more than $27,000. The event’s two major sponsors are Elmira College and Barb’s Soups On Cafe. A group of volunteer potters from the college are already working to produce commemorative soup bowls.
Tickets are $25 each, or $200 for a table of eight. To purchase tickets, stop at the Catholic Charities office, 215 E. Church St., Elmira, or call 607-734-9784. Additional sponsors are still being sought as well. Contact Lindsay Winters at 607-734-9784, ext 145.
