Elmira ND, McQuaid athletes earn state individual titles

When it comes to winning high-school state titles, once is apparently not enough for Olivia Weeks or Dominic Bozzelli.

Weeks, a senior track star from Elmira Notre Dame, is again New York’s best in the triple jump. She recorded a distance of 40 feet, 5 1/4 inches in the NYSPHSAA girls’ final on June 13 at Cicero-North Syracuse High School, one day after she won the Division 2 (small schools) crown for the second straight year by going 40 feet, 5 1/2 inches. Weeks also won the state’s overall indoor triple-jump title this past winter.

Meanwhile, McQuaid Jesuit’s Bozzelli successfully repeated his state golf championship by shooting 71 and 69 — a four-under-par total of 140 — on May 31 and June 1 at Cornell University. Bozzelli, a senior, is the first Section 5 golfer to ever win back-to-back state titles. He triumphed by a convincing five strokes, while Knight teammate Andrew Lane tied for third place at 146 after shooting 73 both days.
