First graders at Holy Family Catholic School in Elmira celebrated Father’s Day with their annual “Dogs and Frogs” event June 13. As a way of showing thanks to those who make Catholic education possible for them, the students invited their fathers or such other special men in their lives as grandfathers and uncles to the event. First-grade teacher Charlotte Wirth said the students shared a hot dog lunch with their guests and then played a friendly game of leap frog. The event emphasized good sportsmanship and also incorporated educational components, Wirth said.
