Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes is seeking to raise awareness of hunger in the Finger Lakes region through its annual Empty Bowls fundraisers, which will be held Oct. 19 and Oct. 27.
The Oct. 19 event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Our Lady of Peace Parish Center, located on Center Street in Geneva, and the Oct. 27 event will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, 90 Melrose Road in Auburn. Tickets for the event may be purchased for $20 apiece for adults or $10 apiece for children under 10. The ticket price includes a meal of soup, bread, dessert and a drink, as well as a commemorative, handmade bowl guests may take home as a reminder that hunger does exist in their communities.
"Awareness of the need is often the most important step in helping to generate a solution," remarked Ellen Wayne, executive director of Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes.
Guests at the Empty Bowls dinners will learn about local anti-poverty efforts, and proceeds from the events will support Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes’ hunger-related programs and services. The commemorative bowls were made and donated by local artists and organizations.
