Err on side of caution

To the editor:

How can Lois Winslow be so sure that global warming is a “scam” (April 2008)? She puts forth no evidence to support her claim, as Al Gore has. It’s not a perfect science, but you can’t ignore the erosion of the polar caps and its implications to our planet.

I think we can all agree that six billion plus humans on Earth have an impact on the environment. I don’t think it’s a stretch to say that the effects are prone to be negative, what with carbon emissions and the multitude of poisons being dumped into our waterways and landfills.

If it is a scam, as she believes, what is wrong with encouraging the exploration and invention of alternative ways to treat our Earth and its finite resources? Is it not better — and more Christian — to heed the warnings and err on the side of caution rather than continue our exploitation of Earth and furthering the damage?

To ignore global warming we might be headed to a point of no return.
