The Diocese of Rochester Catholic Committee on Scouting will hold its annual Catholic Scouting Retreat Sept. 24-26 at Camp Babcock-Hovey in Ovid. The theme of this year’s retreat will be “Christ’s Mysteries of Light” and will be reinforced throughout most of the weekend’s activities.
Billed as a Catholic spiritual experience of prayer, fellowship, enlightenment and fun, the retreat is open to all registered Boy and Girl Scouts 10 years of age and older. This includes second- and third-year Junior Girls Scouts, Cadettes and Senior Girl Scouts, as well as second-year Webelos, Boy Scouts, Venturers and Explorers.
The retreat weekend includes prayer, program sessions, a Saturday-evening campfire and nightly cracker-barrel sessions, during which the Scouts and adult leaders will gather for friendship, fellowship and light snacks.
The retreat staff will consist of experienced Scout leaders and Girl and Boy Scouts in their upper teens, as well as other knowledgeable adults and an emergency medical technician. All groups of Scouts who attend the retreat, however, must provide their campers with responsible adult supervision and transportation.
