Event will honor veterans with ‘Taps’

Participation is sought for a first-time event in which brass players will line up from Elmira to Bath to honor our veterans.

“Echotaps” will take place Saturday, May 21, with an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. in Elmira’s Woodlawn National Cemetery and a closing ceremony at 2 p.m. at Bath National Cemetery. During the time in between, hundreds of instrumentalists will play a few notes each from “Taps” along the 41-mile route between the two communities.

Veterans and non-veterans are invited. Those who do not play an instrument may also participate as volunteers, and/or by attending a dinner on May 20 sponsored by the Finger Lakes Chapter of Bugles Across America. The dinner will be held at the Wings of Eagles Discovery Center, located at the Elmira-Corning Regional Airport in Horseheads.
