Events fill September schedule for area parishes

Parishes in the Southern Tier are ushering out the summer on a festive note, with several social events scheduled to take place in the upcoming weeks:

* Blessed Sacrament Parish in Elmira will host its festival on Saturday, Sept. 6, from 5 to 9 p.m., and Sunday, Sept. 7, from noon to 6 p.m. It will take place on the parish-center grounds of Ss. Peter and Paul Church, located on High Street across from the church. This event continues the tradition of the annual festival that took place for a half-century at St. Anthony Church, which held its closing Mass this past June. St. Anthony was a part of Elmira’s Blessed Sacrament Parish that now comprises Ss. Peter and Paul and St. Patrick churches.

* The third-annual St. Anthony rummage sale/combo parish fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, Sept. 13, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the American Legion pavilion, located on Main Street (Route 38) in Groton.

* St. Patrick School in Owego is kicking off its 150th-anniversary year with its annual fall festival, scheduled for Sept. 19-20. The festival, which will take place on St. Patrick’s church and school grounds at 309 Front St., Owego, serves as the school’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Approximate starting times are 5 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday. Among the festival’s highlights will be the “St. Pat’s Idol” competition in both teen and adult divisions, with case prizes for both division winners

* All Saints Church in Lansing will hold its festival and chicken barbecue on Sunday, Sept. 28, from noon to 5 p.m. at the church, 347 Ridge Road. The event will include kids’ games; book, toy and holiday decoration sales; cake wheel; silent auction; and cash raffle with a $500 first prize.
