More than 100 singers from eight different parishes and faith communities participated in the Easter Hymn Festival at St. John of Rochester Church in Fairport April 15. The singers were accompanied by the St. John of Rochester-Eastman Brass Ensemble and guest organist Bruce Frank, and they were directed by Marko Pranic, associate director of music and organist at St. John of Rochester.
The program opened with Bach’s “Prelude in G-major (BWV 541),” followed by well-known Easter hymns, three anthems and the “Hallelujah Chorus.” There were Scripture readings and moments of silence and reflection following each hymn and anthem.
More than 250 people attended the festival, which St. John of Rochester hopes to make an annual tradition.
