Faithful invited to attend 2022 Chrism Mass

Bishop Salvatore R. Matano is inviting all the faithful of the diocese to attend the Solemn Mass of Chrism on Tuesday, April 12.

The Mass will be celebrated at 6 p.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park, Rochester.

During the Chrism Mass, priests from throughout the diocese will renew their priestly promises to conform themselves more closely to Jesus. Also during the liturgy, Bishop Matano will bless the Oil of the Sick, Oil of Catechumens and the Sacred Chrism, which will be used at diocesan parishes through the year.

In his April “From the Bishop” column in the Catholic Courier, Bishop Matano wrote: “Please join us on this very special day for our priests and for me who so much appreciate the cooperation and collaboration of our people and all you do to build up our parishes, apostolates, charitable agencies, schools and religious-education programs.”

In consideration for members of the diocese traveling longer distances to attend, this year’s Chrism Mass was scheduled one hour earlier than had been the prior custom.

Those unable to attend in-person can view the Chrism Mass by livestream at
