Father Anthony Edward Doser died Nov. 22, 2009, after a lengthy illness. He was 84 years old.
In his high school years, Father Doser attended Aquinas Institute in Rochester and joined the U.S. Navy upon graduation. After completion of his naval service during World War II, he entered the Basilian Fathers’ Novitiate in Rochester, making his first profession of vows in 1947. He earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Michael’s College in Toronto and continued his theological studies at St. Basil’s Seminary in Toronto. He was ordained June 29, 1955, and in 1962 earned a master’s degree from the University of Rochester.
Father Doser taught at Aquinas Institute for more than 20 years. He also taught mathematics at Andrean High School in Merillville, Ind., where he served as religious superior, and at St. Thomas High School in Houston, Texas. He coached the school swimming teams throughout his career.
During his retirement, Father Doser became chaplain in the Community Hospital in Houston and ministered to the Spanish-speaking patients there. Since 2002, Father Doser has been a resident of Anglin House, Toronto.
Father Doser is survived by his brothers John (Trudy) and James (Maria) as well as several nieces and nephews.
His funeral liturgy took place Saturday, Nov. 28, in the Cardinal Flahiff Basilian Centre Chapel in Toronto.
