Benedictine Father James Kelly, 74, died on Easter Sunday, April 16, 2006, at Mount Saviour Monastery in Pine City.
A native of Dansville, he entered religious life in 1952 and was ordained on July 25, 1958. He held a degree in theology and a doctorate in Scripture studies.
Among his assignments away from the monastery, he served as chaplain at Hobart and William and Mary Colleges in Geneva and at Cornell University in Ithaca. He also was a U.S. Army chaplain in Germany.
He is predeceased by his brothers, James and Richard Kelly; and survived by his sister, Caroline Post of Walden, N.Y.; nieces and nephews; and the Mount Saviour community. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at the monastery on Wednesday, April 19, with interment at the monastic cemetery.
