Father Kevin McKenna, currently the pastor of St. Theodore Parish in Gates, has released a new book, Pope Francis and the Parish: The Joy of the Gospel Comes Alive.
The book reviews the influences shaping the pope’s ecclesial vision that became implemented into his 2013 apostolic exhortation, “Evangelii Gaudium” (“The Joy of the Gospel”). To illustrate how Pope Francis’ priorities can be put into action, Father McKenna recounts his experiences at Rochester’s Sacred Heart Cathedral — where he served from 2008 to 2021 as pastor and rector — and the parish’s evolving needs as an urban community affected by poverty and a growing refugee population.
The 112-page book is available through Paulist Press. For ordering information, visit www.paulistpress.com.
Father McKenna has been a priest of the Diocese of Rochester for 45 years. He is the former diocesan chancellor, former president of the Canon Law Society of America, and the author of many articles and books.
