Basilian Father Richard C. Kinsky, 76, died on May 7, 2007, at Joseph’s Place, a skilled-nursing unit at the Sisters of St. Joseph Infirmary in Pittsford. He was diagnosed with lymphoma in 1990 and with leukemia two weeks prior to his death.
The eldest in a family of 11 from St. Boniface Parish in Rochester, he entered St. Basil’s Novitiate in Rochester following his graduation from Aquinas Institute in 1949. He attended St. Michael’s College in Toronto and the University of Toronto. In 1959 he was ordained to the priesthood and received his bachelor of sacred theology degree from the University of St. Michael’s College.
Among his various assignments were several at Aquinas from 1960 to 1990. During that period, he served as superintendent of schools for the Rochester Diocese from 1979-81. He was pastor of Christ the King Parish in Irondequoit from 1992-97. Following his retirement in 1997, he served as chaplain at St. Ann’s Home in Rochester.
Father Kinsky is survived by his siblings, Joan (Jim) Ryan, John (Kay), David (Judy), Mary Ann (Joe) Fischer, Judy (Rich) Gage, Paula (Larry) Staiger, Steve (Gail) and Mike (Mary); nieces and nephews; and the Basilian community.
His funeral liturgy was celebrated by Bishop Matthew H. Clark at St. Boniface Church on May 12, 2007. The homilist was Very Rev. Kenneth J. Decker, Basilian superior general. Burial was in the Basilian plot at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
