Fidelis Care, the health-insurance plan provider founded by New York state’s Catholic bishops, recently received state approval to begin operating in Chemung County.
"The addition of Chemung County completes Fidelis Care’s expansion into the Southern Tier, and our partnerships with providers such as the Guthrie Medical Group and the Arnot Ogden Medical Center ensure that our newest members will have access to local providers they know and trust," said Fidelis President and CEO Mark Lane.
Fidelis will offer the state’s free or low-cost Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus and Medicaid Managed Care insurance. Through these programs, Fidelis members are covered for checkups, preventive care, hospital and emergency care, eye exams, dental care and more. Fidelis also offers programs to manage such chronic diseases as asthma and diabetes, and to help new mothers and their babies to get a healthy start.
Fidelis plans to work closely with local community organizations to reach all who need affordable health insurance coverage. Fidelis officials noted that Chemung County is home to more than 8,300 uninsured people, including more than 1,700 children and teenagers who likely qualify for coverage under Child Health Plus. Officials added that only 57 percent of Chemung County residents who qualify for Medicaid are currently enrolled in this program.
Fidelis expanded into the Diocese of Rochester in 2007 and now serves approximately 730,000 members in 59 of New York state’s 62 counties.
