Fidelis Care opens new office in Perinton

Fidelis Care, the statewide, nonprofit Catholic health-insurance plan provider sponsored by the state’s Catholic bishops, hosted a grand-opening celebration of its new, 3,500-square-foot satellite office at 1250 Pittsford-Victor Road (Route 96), in Perinton Thursday, May 8.

The office, which opened in late March, is in Building 200, Suite 170, of Basin Park, just off of Interstate 490’s Exit 28. Fidelis received approval in August 2007 to help Monroe County residents receive service in Medicaid, Family Health Plus and Child Health Plus programs.

Since August, Fidelis has enrolled more than 1,500 local residents and has spread word of its services through schools and such agencies as Catholic Charities. According to the most recent Department of Health statistics available, more than 80,000 Monroe County residents, including 12,000 children under age 19, did not have health insurance in 2006.

Local providers include Strong Memorial Hospital, Highland Hospital, Rochester General Hospital and the 650 physicians of the Greater Rochester Independent Practice Association.

Local residents can use the new office to stop in for enrollment, or to re-enroll annually in programs such as Child Health Plus.

"We’re unique in that our reps will come to people’s homes, or local coffeeshops to meet them," said Fidelis spokesman Jayson White.

Fidelis serves more than 300,000 members in 39 counties statewide. In the Diocese of Rochester, Fidelis only serves Monroe County, but officials are working to expand the plan to other counties.
