PITTSFORD — Fidelis Care, the New York state bishops’ health-insurance company, will host a grand-opening celebration at 11 a.m. May 8 for its new satellite office at 1250 Pittsford-Victor Road (Route 96), according to company officials.
The new office — which is located in building 200, suite 170 — opened in late March to serve the Greater Rochester/Finger Lakes region, according to a statement from Fidelis. The nonprofit plan, which serves more than 300,000 people in 39 counties, received approval last August from the New York State Health Department and the Monroe County Department of Social Services to enroll residents in the plan through Child Health Plus, Family Health Plus and Medicaid.
According to Department of Health information, 80,500 Monroe County residents — including 11,900 children and youths under the age of 19 — did not have health insurance in 2006. Fidelis officials said more than 1,500 county residents have enrolled in their health plan.
The Pittsford office offers a central location for area residents to apply for health insurance, according to the company’s statement. Fidelis’ regional offices are located in Amherst, Syracuse, Albany and Queens with another satellite office in Poughkeepsie.
