Fidelis Care has donated $57,000 from its Community Grant Fund for Rochester diocesan programs and services.
Fidelis, the health plan of New York’s Catholic bishops that provides free or low-cost insurance coverage, awarded $32,000 to La Casa, a transitional housing program with supportive services for migrant farmworkers and their families. La Casa also provides referrals to other agencies on matters of health, education, abuse and legal services. The funding will be used to maintain staff for ongoing mentoring and the provision of independent-living skills.
Fidelis also awarded $25,000 to diocesan Parish Support Ministries to help the office provide direct pastoral services to the migrant worker community in the 12 counties the diocese serves. Funding will be distributed to three sites with the highest concentrations of migrant populations: Brockport in western Monroe County, Sodus in Wayne County and Geneva in Ontario County.
