Fighting human trafficking is focus of events

Several human trafficking awareness events are planned for September.

The Stop the Trafficking — End the Cycle Run/Walk will take place Sept. 13 at Meridian Centre Park, 2025 Winton Road South. The race will feature a 10K, 5K, 1-mile run/walk and a kids’ fun run. To register, visit or call 585-730-4556. Registration costs for the various races range from free to $40.

The event will benefit and support Angels of Mercy Inc., an organization that aims to fight exploitation of women and children. Angels of Mercy also is the state ambassador for the Dress a Girl Around the World organization, which fights trafficking by providing new clothes to girls and women in poverty.

Later in the month, the Sisters of Mercy and Mercy Associates also will present a human trafficking awareness event in partnership with Angels of Mercy.

The program will be from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, at the Mercy Center chapel, 1437 Blossom Road, Brighton. The program will include presentation of the film "Chosen," which tells the true stories of two American teens lured into sex trafficking through exploitation and manipulation.

Register for the program by calling Angels of Mercy at 585-730-4556 or e-mailing
