Finger Lakes students’ Christmas project aids families

Students at St. Michael School in Penn Yan recently raised more than $750 for the Yates County Christmas Program.

The children in Jacy Egburtson’s kindergarten clas planned and organized the school’s “Stuff the Stocking” event last December. Students in all grades collected spare change in stockings hanging in each classroom.

The money collected in the stockings was given to the Yates County Christmas Program, which in turn used it to provide hats, coats, gloves and Christmas items for families in need.

On Jan. 5, Linda Raide of the Yates County Christmas Program visited St. Michael School to thank the students and recognize them for the care and empathy they showed for local families during the holiday season.
