To the editor:
Why are we closing churches and losing attendance? Could the answer be as simple as "poor management"? The most recent solution from Buffalo Road is to close two viable parishes, combine and cluster and come up with a new name for the remaining churches.
Instead of being overly concerned with the vitality of Catholic communities and working with their neighbors, show a little concern about the problems of the middle class families. Do our leaders realize the high costs of raising a family with the economy having a hard time, job losses, and higher prices on food, clothing, gasoline and extra fees — taxes — on everything we buy?Why don’t our leaders try to keep the cost of Catholic education affordable for Catholic families and let the government worry about educating the general population? Children attending Catholic schools are more apt to attend church on Sunday with their parents. If we are to keep young people Catholic, we need to keep our churches open and our schools affordable. Stop selling off churches the people have worked hard to build up. If you need money do what we families have to do, watch your spending and take care of ourselves.
