Focus on real issues

To the editor:

In July’s letter, “Possibility is worrisome”, we were told that repeating the middle name (Hussein) of presidential candidate Barack Obama was “demagoguery.” The writer was referring to talk show host Bill Cunningham. Other news networks like CBS, NBC, CNN and ABC support Obama and rarely criticize his positions. Yet in his letter, Donovan Russell showed no concern for Obama’s views on human life issues. There was no mention that Obama supports all abortion, including partial-birth abortion. He also favors same-sex marriage.

The question here is, should we ignore his human life record and worry about mentioning his middle name? As Catholics, we should not be giving our support to those favoring immoral and anti-life policies. In a radio address, Archbishop Raymond L. Burke of St. Louis said that, “Catholics commit a mortal sin by knowingly voting for a candidate who advocates abortion.” Hopefully, Catholics will heed his advice and vote for the candidate who is most pro-life.
