To the editor:
I attended a remarkable presentation at St. John Fisher on Friday, December 6, given by a Jewish businessman who has taken the trouble to become what might be called a documentary historian. His book, a compilation of documents, concerns Pope Pius XII and World War II. The author begins by listing numerous beliefs currently held about Pius XII. Although the author’s research covers a period of about 80 years, the key turning point is the year 1963 when Pius XII was vilified in a famous work of fiction.I believe Gary L. Krupp has made an outstanding contribution to our knowledge of a very dark time in history. I found the talk to be provocative and inspiring. I was not raised Catholic and the Church of England in which I was raised was not known in the 20th century to be generally complimentary toward the office of the Bishop of Rome.
I want to thank Mr. Krupp and wish him all success with his foundation called Pave the Way. I hope it will thrive and prosper among all people of good will.
