Funeral for Bishop Matthew H. Clark to be livestreamed

Due to limited seating at Sacred Heart Cathedral, both the evening prayer vigil and funeral for Bishop Emeritus Matthew H. Clark will be livestreamed.

Livestreams of the liturgies will be available on Sacred Heart Cathedral’s YouTube channel. To facilitate ease of viewing, both livestreams also will be prominently featured directly on the home page of

Evening prayer will begin at 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 29, following public visitation from 3-7 p.m. Bishop Salvatore R. Matano will be the celebrant, and Father Joseph Hart, pastor of Our Lady Queen of Peace and St. Thomas More parishes, will be homilist. Father Hart served as vicar general and moderator of the curia under Bishop Clark from 1998 to 2012.

Cardinal Timothy M. Dolan, archbishop of New York, will be the celebrant and homilist for Bishop Clark’s funeral Mass beginning at noon on Monday, Jan. 30. Cardinal Dolan was a friend of Bishop Clark since the early 1970s, when the late bishop was the cardinal’s spiritual director at the North American College in Rome.

Bishop Clark will also lie in state for visitation prior to the funeral from 10-11:30 a.m. Monday.

Bishop Clark, shepherd of the Diocese of Rochester for more than 33 years, died Sunday morning, January 22, 2023, at the Sisters of St. Joseph Motherhouse in Pittsford. He was 85 years old.
