Gatherings set for health, jail ministries

Diocesan Parish Support Ministries will offer a series of listening sessions and gatherings this fall to support those who are part of the office’s various ministries and to present information for anyone who would like to learn more about them.

Deacon John Brasley — who coordinates Parish Support Ministries’ health-care ministry, urban services and ecumenical and religious affairs — said the upcoming listening sessions for the health-care and jail ministries also are intended to be enrichment days for staff and volunteers.

“We found that people who are participating in those ministries sometimes feel isolated in their work,” Deacon Brasley said. “It’s important to provide opportunities for them to gather together just to network and to share some of their expertise together and learn from one another and grow.”

The Office of Black Ministry has planned a series of listening sessions that will begin on Oct. 22 at the diocesan Pastoral Center’s Bishop Hickey Conference Center, 1150 Buffalo Road, Gates. Subsequent sessions are scheduled for Oct. 30 at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 296 Flower City Park, Rochester, and Nov. 5 at St. Mary Church, 15 St. Mary’s Place, Rochester.

Other upcoming sessions, which will be held at the Bishop Hickey Conference Center, are:

* Jail Ministry Gathering: A day of reflection and discussion from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 23.

* Health Care Ministry Gathering: A day of reflection and discussion from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sept. 25.

* Urban Listening Session: “Communicating God’s Plan Across Cultures” with presenter Brenda Easley Webb from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 30.
