Grants available in Southern Tier for anti-poverty initiatives

Groups in Chemung, Schuyler and Tioga counties that are working on anti-poverty initiatives can apply for project funding through Catholic Charities of Chemung & Schuyler.

Small grants are available for projects that will address the root causes of poverty and powerlessness. Projects can focus on such areas as environmental justice, living wage, affordable housing, food security, racial justice and cooperative enterprises.

More information plus application materials are available on the Catholic Charities of Chemung & Schuyler’s website. The deadline to submit applications is Aug. 11. Grants are not available for individuals or for-profit businesses.

Money for the grants comes from the Catholic Campaign for Human Development, the U.S. bishops’ national anti-poverty program. The grants are funded using proceeds raised during CCHD’s annual national collection that takes place in the fall at parishes throughout the country. The Diocese of Rochester’s collection will be Sept. 16-17.
