To the editor:
One Issue Voting?
It is always difficult for me to find a political candidate who is perfectly aligned with my views on every significant topic. A recent letter to the Catholic Courier seemed to question the judgment of 56% of Catholics supporting Clinton because of her position on abortion. I am generally a pro-life advocate … However, I also support Clinton over Trump because I believe all issues need to be considered and weighed for the best informed choice. No candidate is perfect, but if we’re going to use Catholic teachings to guide our vote, it is hard to see how Trump’s actions and rhetoric — "loser", "send all the Muslims and Mexicans back" — attitudes toward women, treatment of contractors, etc., could be used as evidence of being a disciple of Jesus. I respect each person’s final choice and am confident that God loves each one of us: the voters, Donald Trump, and even Hillary Clinton. I hope that all who are eligible exercise their right to vote on November 8!
