To the editor:
A Catholic News Service article in the Courier’s Sept. 3/4 weekly edition insert implies that Catholics are encouraged to protest the war in Iraq, or even better President Bush, when he speaks. I know that, as Catholics, we always pray for peace, but I was not aware that the Church had proclaimed that the most peaceful conclusion of this conflict will be for America and its allies to walk away from these poor people. We cannot ignore history. Osama Bin Laden came into prominence when the Soviets pulled out of Afghanistan and the same effect would occur if we pulled out of Iraq before they had a functioning democracy.
